ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Chris Stewart brought his usual energy in his return to the Wilds home ice, and new recruit Eric Staal finished Minnesotas comeback in its home opener.Stewart had a goal, an assist and finished his second period with a fight, while Staal got his first goal with his new team to help the Wild overcome a two-goal deficit and beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 on Saturday night.Stewart scored to start the comeback and assisted on Matt Dumbas power-play goal that tied it, then Staal capped the three-goal second period to lead 3-2.I have high praise for Stew and what he does, Dumba said. Tonight, he showed why hes so valuable. He contributed lots and really got this ball rolling.Stewart was known for his exuberance when he arrived in Minnesota via trade in 2015 and helped the Wild to the Western Conference semifinals. Stewart played 56 games for new Wild coach Bruce Boudreau in Anaheim last season, scoring eight goals with 12 assists. The big forwards shot from left of the crease deflected off Ehlers skate and crossed the line before goalie Michael Hutchinson swiped the puck away. After a quick review, the officials call stood as a good goal.Stewart also fought Chris Thorburn in the final minutes of the second period.Thats one of the main reasons I was brought in here and Im just doing my job, Stewart said of providing a spark.Devan Dubnyk made 14 saves for Minnesota, which is now 14-0-2 in its home openers at the Xcel Energy Center. Jonas Brodin added a goal for the Wild.Nikolaj Ehlers, Blake Wheeler and Mark Schiefele scored for Winnipeg. Hutchinson stopped 27 shots.Maybe subconsciously, Wheeler said of letting up after scoring twice in the final 71 seconds of the first period. It didnt feel that way in the room and it didnt feel that way on the bench, but maybe we were a little bit casual, feeling good about ourselves. But from what we were talking about in here and on the bench, it didnt seem that way.Minnesota dropped its opener under Boudreau at St. Louis on Thursday and was booed off the home ice following the first period Saturday after Wheeler tipped home a shot from Dustin Byfuglien with 2.6 seconds left. The Wild came out stronger in the second and outshot Winnipeg 12-2 in the period.Mistakes were made, it was obvious, Staal said. But there was choice words by Bruce, I guess you could say, but they were the right things said. I think everybody knew that if we got to our game and got on our toes a little bit more that we would feel the momentum shift, and it did.Schiefeles goal with 18.7 seconds left stood after a video review determined Mathieu Perrault didnt cause goaltender interference after crashing into Dubnyk. All things open up after chaos gets created and we didnt create enough chaos in the offensive zone to create some of the plays we were looking for, Jets coach Paul Maurice said.Game notes Jets F Bryan Little missed the game with a lower body injury sustained in the season opener. Coach Paul Maurice told reporters the injury doesnt require surgery, but Little is out indefinitely. ... With Little out, Maurice shuffled his lines and No. 2 overall draft pick Patrik Laine was on the first line after scoring in his NHL debut. Laine played with Schiefele and captain Blake Wheeler. Alexander Burmistrov took Littles spot in the lineup and centered the third line. ... The Wild will honor Jacob Wetterling, the 11-year-old boy abducted from nearby St. Joseph in 1989, and the Wetterling family during their first three home games. The Wild players will wear Wetterlings No. 11 on their helmets during the first three home games. Zach Parise and his wife, Alicia, also announced an $11,000 donation to the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center.UP NEXT:Jets: Winnipeg returns home on Monday against Boston.Wild: Minnesota continues its three-game homestand Tuesday against Los Angeles. Daniel Briere Jersey . Kiriasis and brakeman Franziska Fritz finished two runs in one minute 55.41 seconds -- a mere 0.01 seconds ahead of Meyers and Lolo Jones, who likely bolstered her Olympic hopes by helping give USA-1 a huge push in the second heat. Reassurance came from Paul Tesori, his caddie and close friend whose newborn son is in intensive care in a Florida hospital. "Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that. Ray Whitney Jersey . -- Matt Rupert scored once in regulation and again in the shootout as the London Knights extended their win streak to nine games by defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action. Antti Raanta Jersey . They hope to persuade the other team owners and commissioner Roger Goodell to put pressure on Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to drop the nickname they find offensive. "Given the way the meeting transpired," Ray Halbritter, an Oneida representative and leader of the "Change the Mascot Campaign," said Wednesday, "it became somewhat evident they were defending the continued use of the name. BEREA, Ohio -- Hue Jackson did not complain about Adam Jones criticism of receiver Terrelle Pryor. The Browns coach said Pryor has to stop some of the things he is doing that lead to that kind of situation.I dont think [that has] any place in the National Football League, especially on our team, Jackson said. Were going to try to get all those things quieted down. We just going to play football, be the best football players we can be. Lets get away from all of that.Jackson apparently was referring to trash-talk that he thinks has gotten excessive. Jones accused Pryor of telling the Cincinnati defensive coordinator he was going to get Jones cut. Jones lambasted Pryor, called him garbage and arrogant and at one point even looked in a garbage can to see if Pryor was in there. It was the second game in a row that a defending cornerback had less than complimentary words for Pryor. Janoris Jenkins?tweeted heavy criticism after the Giants beat the Browns Nov. 27.Pryor declined to comment through the Browns media relations department.Rookie Corey Coleman said that any talk on the field between Jones and Pryor was two guys being really competitive trying to get the best of each other.Terrelles our brother, Coleman said.He knows that he cant say certain things, and hell be all right with that, tight end Gary Barnidge said. He trusts everybody on the team. We all trust him. We all have his back on everything.Pryor can be a free agent after the season, but he has said hed like to stay in Cleveland. Jackson downplayed this incidents possible impact on a new contract but said everything will be considered.I know Terrelle, Jackson said. Again, these are things that can be worked through and understood. But I will always take into consideration everything, and Im sure our organization will too as we move forward. Theres aa type of team we want to be and were gonna be.dddddddddddd Well get these things, these antics or however you guys want to look at them, slowed down. Because we want to do this thing right. The verbal spats with other teams players are just one concern. Pryor also criticized the Browns offensive line after a Nov. 20 loss to Pittsburgh. He has been seen on TV cameras being emotional in what looks like complaining on the sidelines. On Sunday against the Bengals, he was seen in the huddle yelling at quarterback Robert Griffin III when the Browns had to take a timeout because the play clock was running down.Jones said he asked Griffin why hed throw the ball to a guy who yelled at him that way.Although Jackson did not think that specific on-field discussion was overly significant, he did not like the pattern. We stop it, Jackson said. We just stop it. I have a relationship with Terrell, and theres a line ... again you just brought them all up. Were going to stop all that. We dont need all that. I dont think hes trying to be negative when hes doing it.Pryor has worked diligently to make himself into a receiver after playing quarterback, and he has done well. He leads the Browns with 63 receptions, 858 yards and four touchdowns while playing with four different quarterbacks.Jackson said Pryor needs to channel his energy in more positive ways.Thats not the type of football team we want to be, Jackson said. But I think Terrelle is trying to come from a good place. You just got to direct that energy in a different way. I think he will.Theres lessons to be learned. Some people file it under wanting to win so bad, but winning so bad cant supersede the team and how were going to do things. ' ' '
